Hi I'm Justine. I live in enchanting Northwest Detroit (Old Redford neighborhood)where I grew up attending Christ the King parish.
This blog is the story of my goal to visit all Catholic churches in Detroit. My intention is to bring attention to these beautiful buildings and the people there who are doing great things in my beloved city. I do not claim to be a perfect Catholic (no one is) or feel I have any authority to speak of church and religious issues. There are many other great blogs out there for those interested in discussing such matters.
If you have interest in old historic churches, community building, all things Detroit, and the occasional musing from a 20 something about spirituality and the paradox that is Detroit, then I invite you to share in my journey.
Peace be with you,
Justine
Love the parish summaries - 3 parishes I have come to love are Gesu, St. Cecilia and Sacred Heart. I really believe in great music at Mass, and I have heard it at all these places. Most recently we have been going a lot to Sacred Heart, just north of Eastern Market. When the choir is hitting on all cylinders, and they usually are, it is fantastic - Hammond organ, piano, keyboard and drums are the band. My kids of various ages love it (they have sat through many droning monotone Masses!) and everyone has been extremely friendly and welcoming.
ReplyDeletegreat music is a must! I haven't been to any of those yet! I'll bump them up on the list - thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteJustine - thanks for stopping by my blog http://jasongoestochurch.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot in common, throughout my endeavor, I have learned so much about my catholic faith. I fell in love with the tridentine masses. Therefore, I am in a rut with Assumption Grotto - I find the 7:30am mass tridentine in the cemetery too beautiful to give up. When/where is your next? Perhaps we can meet and say hi.
Jason - thanks for visiting right back! I will be on vacation this weekend, not sure where I'll go the week after that. A lot of it depends on when I wake up and my plans for later in the day. St. Anthony Lithanian is a very high priority right now.
